Mood: 😶‍🌫️. Trying to see around the corner, while staving off my bad habits.

Probably the only time I’ll visit Stamford Bridge — the day the NHS turned it into a vaccine clinic

🌹 What am I grateful for this week?

Building on last week’s theme of teams, I was grateful to take part in several team events throughout the week:

  • A long awaited Cell BC luncheon at the Rochelle Canteen
  • An effusive end-of-project retrospective* with Talent Compass
  • PDMA graciously welcoming me in to a Friday wind-down

All great opportunities to reconnect and spend time with a new set of folks. …

Mood: 👌. Thankful for the circle of team life, and for what the next cycle is bound to bring.

Surprising accessible to get to Norwich quickly from London — I think I’m starting to take trains for granted

🌹 What am I grateful for this week?

I’d said to a few folks this week that I was sad to see the Talent Compass* team ramping down after 12 weeks, but thinking about it more this weekend I’m grateful for the way teams come and go. It’s the circle of life in a work sense — as each great one rolls into the sunset, a new one is on the horizon waiting to be born. You get to keep the memories and experiences from each that you’ve been…

Mood: 😌. Watering the grass. Getting reacquainted with the big picture.

Roaming about Windsor Castle — just making sure it was all good for you next week, Mr. President ✌️

🌹 What am I grateful for this week?

Seeing so many others in the office on Thursday was an unexpected treat. Whether it was meeting Patrick for the first time face-to-face, conducting an interview with Cell BC leadership in Mr Blue, or happy hour downstairs at Passo with Dave at the head of the table. We’d have thought nothing of all these little vignettes in the “before times” but they’re such a rarity now.

These good times continued into Friday — I’ve been contributing to a kind of charter for our internal delivery community, and on the…

Mood: 🌻. Feeling a renewed focus. Must be all the vitamin D.

Putting a Monday off to good use at Three Cliffs Bay

🌹 What am I grateful for this week?

It’s already feeling bittersweet that we’ve come to the end of our tenth week on Talent Compass (soon to be Skills Compass, part of the Open Doors platform) as many members of my team have expressed their gratitude for the positive, productive and creative vibe we’ve been able to establish. There’s plenty to be learned and done better next time, of course, but also so much we’ve managed to pioneer as a team within Red Badger I can’t help but be proud about.

I’d love to carry on…

Mood: 😊. Putting the mental gymnastics aside.

Crossing into South Wales via the Prince of Wales Bridge

🌹 What am I grateful for this week?

I was a bit slow getting these notes across the finish line because I’ve been busy visiting the Welsh coast for the first time! As I’m writing it’s only natural for my thoughts of gratitude to turn to the beautiful landscapes, castles, Welsh cakes, and Joe’s ice cream.

But thinking back to the work week, I’m chuffed to have gotten two articles out on parallel tracks. …

Or, how we’re learning to celebrate learning

To date, we’ve been building out Talent Compass as if it were a startup (within the constraints of our day jobs working at Red Badger).

That’s meant setting our team up with a high degree of autonomy, and prioritising the clarity of our mission even when we didn’t have clarity of execution. We’re working with Mission Beyond’s impact group as if they were our board of investors. And we orient our daily work around proving & disproving the assumptions that can lead us to “product-market fit.”

So, like many startups before us, facing a pivot seemed inevitable.

Testing desirability, feasibility and viability

Everyone except the pelicans beside the Duck Island Cottage at St. James’s Park

🌹 What am I grateful for this week?

Getting productive, as in, producing. I was explaining to a couple others how it felt like a weight off my shoulders this week, not to have articles or write-ups on my plate for the first time in a while. A couple blogs queued for next week, an internal* write-up published, and I reposted last week’s blog on LinkedIn to share with a wider group:

This thankfully didn’t get in the way of 1:1 chats, and somehow I managed to swing seven across the…

Mood: 😒. Wishing the words would come, but trying not to rush it.

Awaiting Lisa’s arrival at Paddington 🤗

🌹 What am I grateful for this week?

Can’t remember who originally said “feedback is a gift” but I’m really thankful to have gotten so much of it lately. A couple of my blind spots around checking for 1:1 effectiveness and slowing down in technical conversations are now on my radar. I’ve also been shown some appreciation for how I manage to respectfully challenge others — glad it’s been noticed. I feel strongly there’s always a way to challenge others with kindness, and I never want to lose that.

On the writing front, I’ve waited…

Mood: 🤝. Digging the vibe of the expert and the prize.

HQ rooftop view — sun setting over Old Street

🌹 What am I grateful for this week?

Getting into the office for a couple days this week was a welcome taste of what will hopefully be the post-lockdown future. Particularly on Thursday when a few of us managed to scout the roof 😁.

Mood: 😪. Recovering after a full-on week. Bracing for the next.

Blossoming in Battersea Park

🌹 What am I grateful for this week?

From 8:30 on Monday morning through Friday’s company meeting, it felt like this week just wouldn’t let up. Yet it was full of variety — workshopping externally, future project shaping, current project shaping, mentoring, 1:1s, interviews and hosting the odd working group. Even a miniature re-org with the news of my moving to a new Cell. If ever I craved a week of context switching, this was it!
